The Great Canadian Psychology Web Site: Introducing Students to Canadian Psychologists and their Unique Research Methods

Presenter: Jordan Kerr & Connie K. Varnhagen

Psychology is an international field but Canadian research has made important contributions to advancing psychological knowledge.  To introduce students to Canadian research methods, we have developed the Great Canadian Psychology Web Site.  This learning resource showcases 11 Canadian psychologists and their research.  Interactive activities introduce students to the researchers and their methods, and allow students to replicate their research, collecting data from students around the world.  Still a work in progress, this resource is particularly unique in that the development team consists mainly of students with support from faculty around the province and text book publishers.

Jordan Kerr is an undergraduate Internship student in the Department
of Psychology at the University of Alberta.  He has redesigned the
original site to be more user friendly and accessible and has
programmed most of the interactive activities.

Connie K. Varnhagen is a Professor in the Department of Psychology and
a Faculty Associate with University Teaching Services at the University of
Alberta.  She has been conducting research on pedagogically
appropriate uses of instructional technology for over 20 years and
supports instructors as they integrate technology into their classes.
