The UK is proud to be at the forefront of developments in e-learning and be in a position to harness the potential of technology in its universities and colleges. This is in part due to the Government and funding agencies being pro-active and acknowledging that transformational change cannot be achieved by institutions alone and that coordinated activity is more likely to succeed. This presentation will highlight some of the initiatives that have been so successful and how they are helping practitioners engage with technology. There will be opportunities for sharing ideas/resources as well exploring collaboration with Canadian institutions.
We’ve been fortune in the UK to have a variety of agencies supporting e-learning developments, both pre- and post-compulsory education. The presentation will explore what impact they have had over the past 10 years or more.

Many of the outputs of projects and grant supported activities are freely available not only in the UK but further a field. I will be able to highlight many of these but also look to explore how we can establish meaningful relationships between Canada and the UK.
About Eddie Gulc
Eddie has been with the Higher Education Academy just over three years and is working on a variety of initiatives with the JISC, including a distributed e-learning programme which engages with all of the Academy’s 24 Subject Centres. The Centres are carrying out a range of development projects which meet or explore the needs of their practitioner communities, including for example the use of shareable and reusable resources, e-portfolios and staff development/training/support needs. Prior to working at the Academy, Eddie spent four years as the e-Learning Adviser at JISC Regional Support Centre (RSC) Eastern, based at Anglia Ruskin University.
